Kyiv — the Capital of Ukraine

According to the chronicles Kyiv’s first citadel was built in the period from the sixth to eighth centuries. Kyiv bears the name of prince Kyi, who lived on the old Kyiv Hill in the sixth century. Under the rule of Yaroslav the Wise Kyivan Rus with Kyiv as its capital reached the height of its power.

Nowadays Kyiv is a large political, industrial, scientific and cultural centre. Its population is about 3 million. The city lies on both banks of the Dnieper. Kyiv is a garden city; only a seventh part of its territory is occupied by buildings.

Kyiv has a well-developed industry. Its factories and plants produce sea and river transport vessels, air liners, computers,motorcycles, consumer goods.

Kyiv is also one of the largest scientific centres. The Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and many research institutes are famous for their discoveries. More than 10 000 students study at Kyiv Shevchenko National University. There are over 20 higher educational establishments in Kyiv.

Kyiv is also the centre of political life in Ukraine. All major political events take place here.


Kyiv is the largest ancient centre of national Ukrainian culture. There are 20 museums, 1300 libraries, 41 theatres, 121 parks. Kyiv is growing and is being built, it also becomes younger and more beautiful.

LONDON

LONDON  

London is not only the capital of the most important English-speaking country. It’s also one of the largest and most beautiful cities in the world. The population of London at the moment is more than 8 million people. Besides, London is inhabited by people of almost all nationalities and races. The city lies on both banks of river Thames. The most important parts of London are: the City, the East End, the West end and Westminster. The busiest part is, of course, the City. Thousands of companies, business organizations, banks and offices are situated there and millions of people work there on daily basis. The West End and the East End classification shows that London has still class distinction system. The West End is traditionally inhabited by rich and successful people. Besides, almost all the city theaters, museums, galleries, posh shops and restaurants are situated in West End area. East End is the place where working class lives. This district is not as rich as others and has fewer parks. Westminster area contains many sightseeing buildings. The most famous of all is the Westminster Abbey. It’s the place where many prominent Englishmen are buried. Among them Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, Alfred Tennyson and many others. London is full of places of interest. When tourists arrive there, they want to see the Piccadilly Street, which is especially beautiful at night, the Baker Street, the place where Sherlock Holmes lived and worked, the Tower, which is famous as home of the Crown Jewels, the Hyde Park with its Speaker’s Corner, the Museum of Madame Tussauds and many others. One of the favourite tourist attractions is London Eye. It’s one of the largest Ferris wheels in the world.

 «Мои домашние заботы – My household duties»

 At the present I go to school, so I'm very busy on weekdays. Because of this, unfortunately, I can't help in the house as often as my parents wish. However, I do my best to find the time to clean house.

 Every morning I get up and without any loss of time, I do my bed and go to the bathroom. Yawning, I wash my face, then I brush my teeth and go to have breakfast. After breakfast, I always wash the dishes myself after me and my family, because my mom and dad leave for work before me. They have no time to wash the dishes.

 At 8 o'clock sharp, I make my way to the school and at 4 on the dot I come back home. On my return, I cook something easy so that I might eat, and then I get down to the lessons. Lessons take me from half an hour to two hours a day. It all depends on how much homework our teacher gives to us. Then I put all the books and notebooks into place and start cleaning my room. Every day I dust. Every other day I vacuum. Sometimes in the evening we go shopping together with dad.

 From time to time, I help my mom wash, iron and do spring cleaning. But this happens not quite often. On the weekend I rest, meet friends, play in the yard and in the park across the street. She often gets angry with me for this, so I try to study well and make her happy making good progress in studies.

 Сейчас я учусь в школе, поэтому я очень занята по будням. Из-за этого, к сожалению, я не могу так часто, как хотелось бы моим родителям, помогать по дому. Однако я делаю все возможное для того, чтобы найти время на уборку дома.

Каждое утро я встаю и, не теряя ни минуты, застилаю свою постель и иду в ванную комнату. Зевая, я умываюсь, далее я чищу зубы и иду завтракать. После завтрака я всегда мою посуду за собой и всей моей семьей, потому что мама и папа уходят на работу раньше меня. У них нет времени на мытье посуды.

 Ровно в 8 часов я ухожу на учебу, а ровно в 4 часа я возвращаюсь домой. После моего возвращения, я готовлю себе что-нибудь легкое поесть, а затем принимаюсь на уроки. Уроки занимают у меня от получаса до двух часов в день. Все зависит от того, сколько домашнего задания нам дал наш преподаватель. Затем я складываю все книги и тетради на места и начинаю уборку своей комнаты. Каждый день я вытираю пыль. Каждые два дня я пылесошу. Иногда по вечерам мы ходим с папой за покупками.

 Время от времени я помогаю маме стирать, гладить и делать генеральную уборку. Но это не бывает часто. На выходных я отдыхаю, встречаюсь с друзьями, играю во дворе и в парке напротив. Мама часто сердится на меня за это, поэтому я стараюсь хорошо учиться и радовать ее хорошей успеваемостью.
